Thursdays at the Richmond Parkway YMCA

Gentle Yoga from 6:00 to 7:00 pm PST

Gentle yoga focuses on breathing techniques and relaxation. This class increases mobility and promotes ease in the body in a gentle and nourishing way. We will move at a slower pace with less intense positions. Think of it as a moving meditation and an opportunity to care for your body and mind in a supportive group setting.

Fridays at the Green Yogi Telegraph

Yin + Restorative from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm PST

This class is appropriate for all yogis, including beginners. We will begin with some gentle movement, move into a yin sequence and end with a few deeply relaxing restorative postures.

Yin Yoga is a deeply nourishing, passive practice where poses are held for longer periods of time (3-5 minutes). During these holds, moderate pressure is applied to the connective tissues (joints, fascia, ligaments) to increase circulation and improve mobility. Mindfulness and breath awareness is cultivated throughout the practice to support a still, inward focus. Yin yoga also supports the body’s subtle energy by stimulating the meridian channels and flow of chi. Yin yoga is particularly helpful for athletes and those who have less natural flexibility.

Restorative yoga is a practice of deep relaxation and rest. Blankets, bolsters and other props are used to support the body with no muscular effort. During longer pauses (around ten minutes) in fully supported poses, the body is able to deeply relax as the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated. Restorative yoga is valuable for everyone and can be particularly beneficial to those who experience stress, anxiety, insomnia, and muscular tension.
